Sun Sea and Contact Lenses

We are now officially in summer and with summer comes sun and sea. Contact Lens Wearers may notice a few changes with their contact lens wearing experience during these hot months.

👁️ Dry Eyes

Air conditioned Offices can lead to contact lenses drying out early on during the day. Remember your contact lens comfort drops. Use them regularly throughout the day to prevent your lenses from drying out.

🏊🏽 Swimming

Infections spread more easily in water. The type of water one is swimming is an important factor in deciding whether to swim in your contact lenses.  It is recommended to seek advice from your eye care professional. We will lay out a few precautionary measures that you can take .

  • Use Swimming Goggles over your contact lenses whilst you swim. These are also available from +6.00 to -12.00 , also for children.
  • Ideally avoid splashing water near your face
  • Do not submerse your face or eyes under water
  • Use Daily Disposable Contact Lenses should you decide to swim with lenses on
  • Always take your spectacles with you to the beach or / and an extra pair of contact lenses.
  • If you experience any unusual symptoms such as itchiness, red eye, eye soreness , or any form of irritation , rinse your eyes with SALINE water , NEVER tap water and visit your eye care professional.
